Higher Tier scheme
The Higher Tier scheme replaces the old Higher Level Stewardship Scheme. It is a targeted and competitive scheme where acceptance is not guaranteed. Unlike Mid Tier which is quite different to ELS, Higher Tier is very similar to the old HLS.
As an example, for bird options, Mid Tier allows you 3-5% of your land in bird options, whereas Higher Tier expects between 5-10%. It still allows you to claim for capital payments for jobs such as hedge planting and stone wall restoration. Higher Tier is more Mid Tier plus.
You will get one to one support from a Natural England advisor, and field options are targeted to improvements in habitat for key species (e.g. grey partridge and barn owl) or resource protection. Money can also be obtained for renovation of traditional farm buildings.
JSP Management have a number of applications going through the process in year one, and can offer all levels of support ranging from basic completion of the form to a fully comprehensive service and ongoing management.
I can also come and visit to do a pre rpa visit on your existing Environmental Schemes.
